Family & Ministry update
Eric and Lori Bohman have been missionaries with BIMI since 1992. They arrived in Kenya in the fall of 1994, and after completing their language study, moved to the small rural town of Nyahururu to oversee the ministry that was started by former BIMI missionaries, Marc and Tina Deloach.
The Bohmans placed a strong emphasis on one-on-one discipleship and training of new converts right at the start. Although the growth seemed slow at first, these new converts became strong, committed Christians who are the leaders of their ministries today.
Through the years, the Lord blessed the Bohman’s efforts by multiplying their ministry as God called many of these leaders to other areas to begin churches. With God’s help, Eric and these national leaders have planted fourteen churches and started seven Bible study groups in the villages surrounding the town and going north into the semi-desert regions.
These new churches have grown and now are reproducing themselves in still other villages. Two village churches have feeding centers as an outreach to the orphans in their areas, and one church now has a primary school.
Several years ago, the Bohmans began working with the deaf and the hearing-impaired and helped to start one of the first Baptist deaf churches in Kenya. The First Baptist Church for the Deaf was started officially in 2003. Since then, Eric, who is deaf in one ear and has an understanding of the local sign language, along with a deaf national have started Bible study groups in three deaf schools as well as another deaf church.
In 2005, Eric was appointed as the Assistant Africa Director for BIMI. This additional responsibility has added a new dimension to their minsitry. Although Eric continues to oversee and assist his national leaders in church planting, he also helps Bro. Ron Bragg (BIMI Africa director) with responsibilities on the continent; such as, helping new missionaries upon their arrival to the field, leading survey trips with potential missionaries, holding regional field conferences, and surveying new countries for future missionary work.
In 2007, the Bohmans moved across the border into Tanzania where they are helping with a new church plant among the Waarusha and Maasai people.
Although the ministries in Kenya are all functioning independently and have trained leaders, Eric continues to oversee the ministries and hold evangelistic outreaches as well as training sessions for their national leaders.
The Lord has blessed Eric and Lori with four lovely daughters, which are a blessing to their home and an asset to their ministry.
